Is Prey Movie 2022 worth watching?
Prey Movie 2022 follows a Comanche tribe on the great Northern plains in 1917. The landscapes are beautiful and are captured well in this film as we get to know our main players in the film. As the conflict begins between alien and man the tone of the visuals turns dark appropriately so. Gone are the beautiful mountains and rivers.
They are replaced by baron dead forests and bogs. Although the actors in this film are relatively inexperienced, their performance was well done. The score increased the tension as needed and not over barring. In fact, at times, I was so focused on the story I didn’t notice the music.
The story itself was well done. What I saw was a dual story of growth for the Predator as well as Naru and her brother Taabe. The rite of passage for any young member of the tribe is to prove themselves by going out and hunt what is hunting them, and of course surviving.
Did Predator hit Earth for the first time in 2022 Prey Movie?
One side is the Predator. Left alone by his tribe to gather the skulls of the best competition on Earth. I assume this is their first visit to the planet. Throughout the film the Predator works his way up the food chain from, snake, dog, bear and finally man. Dispensing of his targets in glorious gory fashion.
While battling the Frenchmen I saw a nod to the Halloween franchise as the Predator admired his kill and tilted his head to the left.
On the other hand, Naru our heroine finds herself trapped in a man’s world. The men do the hunting and are warriors while the women live a more tedious life of gathering food, providing medicine and cooking. Early on we learn that Naru longs for more as she mundanely goes about gathering food from the field. Quickly bored she takes to practicing her hunting and demonstrates mad axe throwing skills. Her well-trained dog Sarri always by her side.
She is obviously destined to be more than she is and focused on proving she can be as good as any male. Through a conversation with her mother, we understand her true desire. The mother asks, “why do you want to hunt?” her reply “because you all think I can’t”. After a few failed hunting attempts and capture by Frenchmen to be used as bait so they can capture the Predator for profit. Where she adapts her hunting skills and learns more about the Predator as she encounters him through her journey.
Finally, it’s time for the alpha hunters to meet. The prey becomes the predator. Brute force of the Predator against the cunning and skill of Naru, Taabe and Sarri. In the end brains beat brawn and Naru returns to her tribe victoriously displaying the head of her kill. Her journey complete.

Larger battle in Prey Movie
The larger battle in this film is Naru trying to prove herself in a male dominated world. She is discouraged by her mother and the male members of her tribe. Degraded verbally and physically. Not believed when she warns of the Predators arrival to the point that she sets off on her own to prove them wrong.
Taabe her brother tries to support her but becomes frustrated with her determination to enter the man’s realm and discourages her. In the end it is the cooperation of brother, sister and animal that succeeds. One could not succeed without the other.
Another point I took of the film is how man destroys his environment specifically the group of Frenchmen. They hunt only for profit killing and taking the hides leaving the carcasses to rot in the sun. Luckily their profiteering comes to an end in the films most violent action sequences.
Conclusion
Overall, “Prey” takes the Predator series back to its roots. Human against Predator which I like. No need for the epic battle between aliens. Which is when I felt the series jumped the shark. It’s retelling of the David and Goliath story.
Predator with all his fancy technology. Why shouldn’t he win it is not a fair fight. Then there is Naru with her modified throwing axe and dog. I was able to get behind Naru and was happy for her when she emerged victorious.
Although in the end in my opinion her struggle for full acceptance is an equal continues.
